One track already makes Nick Heyward's first solo LP after leaving Haircut a must-hear. The breezy "Whistle Down the Wind" is among Heyward's most moving songs, a story of unrequited love with a "hello, hello, hope you're feeling fine" chorus that is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Heyward sings the opening lines in a whispery tone, caressing the ears with the sweetness of his voice.

Being obsessed with Haircut One Hundred's album I naturally checked out and enjoyed Nick's solo work through various compilations. Despite loving "On a Sunday","Blue Hat For A Blue Day"and "Whistle DownThe Wind" I never imagined this album would be anything special but after finally bothering to give it a try,I soon came to enjoy North Of A Miracle perhaps even more than Pelican West as while.

By my reckoning, this is the sixth edition of Nick Heyward's solo debut, North of a Miracle. This double-disc edition, packed with bonus tracks, comes from the fine folks at Cherry Red. As often seems to be the case these days, this latest remaster is something of a mixed bag/5(46).
