  MARK OF THE MOLE (Disc One) started the Mole ball rolling in The album tells the timely tale of the Moles and the Chubs, two very different cultures forced to co-exist together. The Mohelmots (AKA Moles) are driven from their homes by a natural disaster and wind up settling in with the Chubs.

  Mark of the Mole est le titre d'un album des Residents sorti en Il s'agit de la première partie de la trilogie des Moles. Les deux autres albums de la trilogie sont The Tunes of Two Cities et The Big Bubble, ce dernier sous-titré comme étant la «quatrième partie» de la trilogie.. Ces albums relatent le conflit entre deux sociétés imaginaires, les Moles et les Chubs.

  The first album, The Mark of the Mole, tells of how the primitive but hard-working Moles were driven from their homes and forced to live with the sophisticated and superficial Chubs, who used them as cheap, lower-class labour until the friction between the groups exploded into war.

  Final Confrontation is a four part suite featured in The Residents' Mark of the Mole album. The track depicts the final battle between The Moles& The Chubs, as The Chubs use their newly crafted war machine to chase the moles out of their land.

  So disc one here is the original Mark Of The Mole album, plus bonus material recorded in the studio in which finds the Residents reprising tracks from the LP. The Mark album itself is broken down into the six interlocking parts of the story (which take their own twists and turns), more a musical drama piece than a conventional LP.

  Mark of the Mole is also the point at which the Residents began to utilize almost exclusively the icy synthesizer sounds they've become known for ever since (technology finally caught up to them). The music is sometimes cold and abrasive, but the story is fascinating and works on many levels. This is one of the Residents ' most notorious works.
